Vitreluxe Blown Glass Portland, Oregon
...we are helping accessorize a beautiful, modern house in Seattle. I have come across this beautiful glassware studio called Vitreluxe. I love finding local studios that are people doing what they love and helping us create unique environments that are not just out of a corporate store. It's really interesting taking the time to be thoughtful about each area of the house, taking measurements and having something meaningful made by someone, rather than being mass-produced. Here are a few photos of the pieces we are having made (...by a real person). enjoy!

square root industries, Todd Loewy
Hi Friends,
We just got some beautiful new coffee tables in by local designer Todd Loewy. By combining multiple mediums including metal, wood, acrylic, powder coating, and glass each table reaches a depth and feel which mixes colors and imagery to create a unique and functional piece of art. We have two pieces in the store now and Todd is always open to do custom work as well.
You really have to see these in person to appreciate them! Come by our showroom, our new hours are Wednesday-Saturday 11-6.
Cheers,
Tyffany

Modern Wallpaper...not the same old designs
dear friends,
I have to share something embarrassing --- Carey just helped me have my place painted after having a swatch on my wall for about 4 months (well, maybe 5 months even). This is a classic case of the 'cobblers kids have no shoes' and, as a design store owner for 7 years now and an interior design 'adult' student on the side, this is a shame. I see more products and materials and vendors in a year than most people see in a decade. I am also a voracious reader of international design magazines (yes, the kind you hold in your hand and save for inspiration for just that one dog-eared page!). Well, I chose this paint company for its NO VOC paint-palette and also the fact that they were 'born' locally called Yolo. Also, I've decided what to do with my little bathroom and hallway --- Ferm Living Wallpaper. I really wanted some texture and variation, but not too much and not really into trendy things. So, here's to adding color and texture to our lives. We have all the samples here at relish, so feel free to come by, have a seat and play with us...

Konzuk for 6 years now...
hi folks,
I mentioned recently in our newsletter at Relish Design that I would be posting many of my favorite artists and designers that we have carried over the years. 7 years now --- a lot of amazing art shows and people and materials and stories. This one is probably my favorite over the years, Konzuk Metalwear -- her use of materials in jewelry is strongly influenced by architecture, fashion and industrial design. Enjoy...we are always on the look out for innovative and natural material use in home and product design. thanks for all the years of inspiration! trisha

There are several new pieces to check out and remember we are always taking special/custom orders on these pieces... and in the spirit of First Thursday we will be taking 15% off of canvas orders through today!

Interiors Project to Share!
Carey here this time. I wanted to share some initial images of these beautiful custom draperies we just had installed for a private client we're working with. This is for her office area that was in need of some major sun coverage as well as a pop of something fun and colorful. It certainly doesn't get more productive than hummingbirds! This is a perfect example of how we can work with anyone to find a great fabric or pattern, take measurements, and in a few shorts weeks- voila! Instant wow-factor!
Just thought I'd pass along some of the initial imagery for this part of a much larger project in the works, as it's definitely ignited my inspiration now that I truly see all the possibilities there are in window treatments.
For you own quote on a similar project, simply send us an e-mail at interiors@relishstyle.com
Cheers!

Introduction to Relish
Dear friends,
It is with great pride that I can finally start the relish blog! I have been waxing poetic for years about the nature of design, use of the same old materials in furnishings these days when there are so many more interesting alternatives, going local and sponsoring local artist events and design lectures with emotive (my new word), abstract expressions.
Our complex history is a long one - started relish mid 2002 (after a little practice) in a little live/work space in Portland's new urban Pearl District (http://pearldistrict.com/), in a cramped 320 sq ft, moved a year later to the Gregory building 5 blocks away (http://www.thegregory.com/) where we lived for 5 years. And now, ahhhh, we recently moved to our renovated warehouse space to add our interior design and product sourcing services! One year of hell and lots of money, then no money, then some money and damn, a broken economy at the finish line. We still keep moving, hoping, learning and doing what we love best -- creating authenic, beautiful spaces for every day people.
