Product and Discussion of the Day!

Company: Ferm-Living About: ferm LIVING is a Danish company that aims at designing and manufacturing interior products with a graphic touch. The product range consists of wallpaper, Wall Stickers, textiles, kitchen items, a large KIDS collection and much more great stuff to come… ferm LIVING originates from a graphic des...ign agency in Aarhus, Denmark, founded by Trine Andersen in 2005. The company came to life after Trine, mostly for fun, decided to visit a clairvoyant. Trine was quite astonished when the clairvoyand saw a little bird sitting confused on a branch, not knowing which way to fly. This sight was essential for Trine’s decision to follow her dream of starting her own business. When she then founded ferm, the little bird found knew exactly where to go and now sits on top of the company logo. The company went from being a graphic design agency to a company designs and selling lifestyle products when Trine was re-decoration her house. She was looking for graphic wallpaper, but just couldn’t find the right pattern – and when she found it, it was way too expensive. Trine decided, that other people probably felt the same way, so she decided to take it upon herself to create graphic wallpaper patterns at an affordable price. By February 2006, the very first wallpaper collection hit the streets, and since then things have been going fast! ferm LIVING now operates in many markets around the world and has agents/distributors in Australia, USA, Finland, The Netherlands, UK, Spain, France, Italy, Sweden and Japan. I personally love their bold and graphic designs! They would add such a great pop of color to your kitchen. Another thing that is cool is that their packaging is made from 100% recycled paper! *Do you buy, or not buy something based on it's packaging?

Artist: Stephan Becker Location: Portland, Oregon About: Award-winning furniture designer, Stephen Becker, is now creating beautiful, environmentally responsible lighting with the launch of greenlights. We currently offer five distinctive “candle sculptures” (they’re too cool to be called candleholders), many of which fit both votives and tapers. A pioneer in sustainable furniture design and owner of IF Green (www.ifgreen.com), Becker’s beautiful Slingback chair was awarded “best new chair of the year” by Sunset Magazine. His cabinet and furniture designs have been featured in a wide array of publications including Natural Home and Atomic Ranch magazines and National Geographic’s True Green Home. Now, Stephen turns his sights to lights with five green candleholder designs handmade in Oregon. Each features sustainably harvested or reclaimed woods, natural glues and finishes and recycled materials. Once again, Becker has proved his motto true: “Sustainable can be stylish.” His work is beautiful! We have a couple of these candle sculptures in store, and they get tons of comments from people who come in the store, good ones of course! What's even cooler is that he does furniture too!

Product of the Day!/Discussion

Okay, I realize I featured Marimekko two "Products of the Day" ago, but I was in a meeting with Trisha yesterday with Mambo Media and we were talking about marketing and of course what Relish offers as a store and company, and Trisha pointed out that Relish is one of the only places in Oregon that offers true Marimek...ko fabric. Hearing that just made me think, how come I didn't know that?! And how come I didn't think to ask? I have seen Marimekko products in other places as well, and I didn't ask myself, "is this truly Marimekko?" How often do you ask yourself, "where did this come from?"

From: Design House Stockholm Designer: Harri Koskinen Block Lamp: Harry was educated in Helsinki at the Institute of art and design. He has received acclaim from the Finnish industry sector, which recognized him as a talented designer with brave new ideas. ...Today, the block lamp is a design classic, renowned all over the world and recognized with several design awards. The Block Lamp was introduced in 1996 and has been part of the Museum of Modern Art in New York's collection since 2000. I am pretty sure I am way behind the times on this one, but this lamp is so cool! It was in the store when I showed up today and was informed that it's been around for a while. I have never seen a lamp so simple and innovative. It completely challenges what we know as a lamp while still having the basic function of a lamp, to light. Beautiful and a great floor highlight piece.
